Open SystemC Initiative Receives Clean Bill of Health, becomes a Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation and Announces its Officers
Pro-Competitive Status Confirmed by Independent Investigation, Organization Reinvigorated in its Drive Towards SystemC Standardization
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - June 18th, 2001 - The Board of Directors of the Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI) announced today that the legal counsel, engaged by the Board to investigate allegations of wrongdoing, has found no grounds to support any of the allegations. The Board is taking the unusual step of making this announcement because the allegations, that included charges of anti-competitive behavior by a number of companies within and outside OSCI's membership, were contained in a letter to the Board that was reported in Electronic Engineering Times.
The investigation was led by Richard Patch, partner at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass, LLP, of San Francisco. Mr. Patch reports: "The investigation has not revealed any reasonable facts that would support a conclusion that OSCI or its members have acted improperly or unlawfully. It is apparent that the OSCI Board, which is representative of the industry as a whole, is an active Board which has and can be expected to continue vigilantly to guide OSCI's activities." The complete statement from Mr.Patch will shortly be available on www.SystemC.org.
OSCI Incorporated
With this matter concluded, the Board is now focused on the growth and development of OSCI and SystemC. A significant goal was to become a California nonprofit mutual benefit corporation. This goal has now been achieved - the culmination of a long-standing commitment to ensure OSCI becomes a fully independent, open organization for the benefit of the wider industry. Shortly after incorporation, the OSCI Board elected officers for the corporation in accordance with its bylaws. The officers elected were:
CHAIRMAN and TREASURER - Stan Krolikoski, Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
VICE-CHAIRMAN - Takashi Hasegawa, Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc.
PRESIDENT - Kevin Kranen, Synopsys, Inc.
SECRETARY and EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - Pete Hardee, CoWare, Inc.
The other seven companies represented on the Board of Directors are:
ARM Ltd., Ericsson, Infineon, Motorola, NEC, Sony and STMicroelectronics.
Dr. Krolikoski commented, "I have been impressed with how the Board acted on these serious allegations, and with the thoroughness and efficiency of the investigation by Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass. I am thoroughly satisfied that OSCI continues to be an open organization in which both EDA users and vendors can contribute to the shared goal of producing an industry-standard system language. With this investigation behind us, OSCI can now focus with renewed vigor on achieving this goal."
Mr. Kranen added, "We're delighted that OSCI has emerged with independent confirmation that all parties have acted consistently in good faith towards our goals of standardizing SystemC as quickly as possible for the benefit of the industry at large and that our process is open to all who wish to take part."
SystemC Momentum Continues to Grow
The total number of downloads of the SystemC open source code now stands at greater than 19,000, from over 9,000 unique licensees. In May alone, there were over 2,000 downloads of the latest releases, versions 1.0.2 and 1.2.1 beta. This shows a phenomenal rate of adoption, putting SystemC in a different league versus all other comparable language initiatives.
